Our Breeds

Here at Stardust’s Rabbitry, we have a selected few breeds that we focus on extensively because of their temperaments and colors. We have numerous other small breeding projects of other breeds that we offer babies from occasionally. Here is a brief overview of the breeds that you may see listed on our site.

Mini Lops

Mini Lops

Mini lops are our number one breed by far, both in the show ring and for pets. We’ve been working with this breed for 20+ years, and show extensively throughout local and national show circuits. Mini lops are medium sized (generally 5.5-6.5 pounds), and have fantastic laid back personalities. They come in a vast array of colors, and make a fantastic first time pet for kids and adults alike.

English Lops

English lops are a goofy and wonderful breed, known for their quirky personalities, large size, and big ears. English lops have very long ears—21 inches (or more) when measured from tip to tip. The English lop is a large breed, weighing 10-15 pounds (or more) at maturity. They have wonderful personalities, demand attention, and really bond to their people. They are a large rabbit, and are often a lot for small kids or inexperienced adults to pick up and hold. They require regular nail trims and special accommodations to ensure their ears stay healthy and undamaged. We are working on some really exciting English lop colors, but we don’t have them available often. They are sensitive rabbits and we only breed them in warmer weather.

Mini Rex

Mini Rex are wonderful small/medium sized rabbits with super soft velvet fur. Mini Rex are a sensitive breed—they are sensitive to loud noises and rough handling. They love to be snuggled but young kids may be too much for them. They range in size from 3.5-5 pounds (average being 4 pounds). They come in lots of fun and striking colors like tricolor, blue eyed white, shaded, and more.

Netherland Dwarfs

Netherland Dwarfs

Netherland Dwarfs are the smallest breed we raise and the second smallest breed of domestic rabbit. They usually weigh between 2-2.5 pounds, but they can grow larger depending on the amount of dwarfing gene they inherit and express. Large dwarfs are usually 2.5-3.5 pounds at full size. Netherland dwarfs are known for their energy and can be less tolerant of kids. Dwarfs do best in an indoor setting or protected outdoor setting due to their small size and low body weight. Dwarfs are fragile, and need to be handled with care.

Dutch

Dutch

Dutch are a calm and quiet medium sized bunny that make wonderful pets for kids and adults alike. Dutch are all supposed to be born with a specific marking pattern (similar to a tuxedo cat) but they do vary some between individuals. They come in lots of different colors as well. Dutch are generally 4-5 pounds at maturity. They are excessively sweet and calm, and really do well as a first time pet for kids.

French Lop

French Lop

French Lops are a giant breed—literally. Minimum weight for adults is 11 pounds, but they can easily tip the scales at 15 pounds or more. French Lops are sweet and calm, but their larger size obviously makes them a more advanced breed compared to some of the smaller ones. French Lops are the full sized predecessor of the Mini Lop (in case you were wondering why Mini Lops are called mini but aren’t that small). They come in lots of colors, and are known for their calm and inquisitive personalities.

Polish

Polish are a small, calm breed that make awesome starter bunnies for first time rabbit owners. They weigh 3-3.5 pounds at maturity. The come in only a handful
of colors—black, blue, chocolate, lilac, and broken. They are calm and easy to handle, and stay small without the influence of the dwarfing gene (the gene that keeps Netherland Dwarfs small). Like dwarfs, they do best in an indoor environment or a protected outdoor setting.

Holland Lops

Holland Lops are the smallest breed of lop. They are a dwarf breed, like the Netherland Dwarf, and generally mature somewhere between 2-4 pounds. Holland lops that don’t inherit the dwarfing gene can be larger, but that varies greatly depending on breeding and lineage. Holland Lops are an incredibly popular breed. They have sweet, goofy personalities and love human interaction. They can be more energetic when compared to the other non dwarf lop and non lop breeds.
